ABSTRACT

Nowadays, the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted communities' mental health worldwide. Therefore, studies on minimizing the pandemic's mental health impact are urgently needed. This study aimed to examine the role of patience on distance learners' mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic. A correlational study was conducted involving a total of 330 university students of distance learners, and they were selected using stratified random sampling. The Patience Scale (PS-11) was used to measure interpersonal patience, life hardships patience, and daily hassles patience. The Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21) were used to measure mental health from the aspects of depression, anxiety, and stress. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and multiple regression. The study showed that life hardships and patience were predictors of reducing depression and anxiety. Besides that, life hardships patience and interpersonal patience were predictors of reducing stress, and the main contributing factor was life hardships patience. This study contributes to humanistic therapy theories and their practical implications. It also contributes to developing the national mental health policy strategy, Ministry of Health Malaysia, and Sustainable Development Goals 2030. © 2023 The Authors. Published by IASE.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic is an entity moving in momentum with various eruptions of human senses to directly or indirectly impact mental health. This chapter discusses the model of health beliefs, resilience in facing the challenges, stress, and depression, psychosocial support initiatives through therapy digitization. Detail the relevance of this issue to a health belief model that cannot be seen from the aspect of physical illness alone. Online therapy is mental health digitization that works to help communities experiencing stress. Through online therapy, efforts to help reduce and restore mental health problems caused by the pandemic are being made jointly between government agencies and NGOs. In addition, the ability to cope with new living norms will enable society to live life in a more balanced and prosperous emotional, mental, and physical state. In line with the current COVID-19 pandemic scenario, it is an emotional challenge to strengthen mental health therapy as one of the progressive and pragmatic alternatives in helping community members adapt to new norms of living better. © 2023, IGI Global.

ABSTRACT

COVID-19 is a contagious disease caused by the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that attacks the respiratory tract. On August 14th, 2021, 653,741 persons had been proven positive for COVID-19. The number of patients tends to increase as the number of COVID-19 cases grows. The more infected people, the more cases of COVID-19 there will be. The Bed Occupancy Ratio (BOR) in West Java reached an all-time high of 91.6 percent in June 2021, far exceeding the WHO recommendation of 60 percent, before gradually declining to 30.69 percent in August. Because of the new cases mentioned, the rate of spread of COVID-19 in West Java, the forecast of new cases is very strategic. The number of new cases in this study was predicted using a Multilayer Perceptron (MLP). The data used in this study were sourced from the COVID-19 Task Force. The data is the number of positive and new cases from 34 provinces in Indonesia from March 2nd, 2020, to August 14th, 2021. The results of the evaluation using test data on the number of active cases in the last 19 weeks, namely April 10th - August 14th, 2021, The MLP is accurate in forecasting the number of new cases 18 times for both forecast periods with APE < 15%, with the value MAPE, RMSE and MAE obtained were 5.52%, 1157,61, and 706.811. The results of this study can be helpful for the government as a reference in conditioning hospital bed capacity to deal with active COVID-19 cases in West Java in the next two weeks so that the hospital rejects no COVID-19 patients because the hospital is full. ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the livelihoods of fishing communities socially and economically. This study examines the sustainability of small-scale fishing households in Prigi Bay during the COVID-19 pandemic based on the sustainable livelihoods approach (SLA). The objectives of this research are: (1) To identify small-scale fishing households’ access to human resource capital, natural resources, financial capital, physical capital and institutional social capital during the pandemic, (2) To examine the sustainability of small-scale fishing households’ livelihoods during the pandemic based on the five dimensions and (3) To determine the priority scale of the five capitals. This study is a quantitative research utilising the multidimensional scaling household economic analysis to determine the sustainability status of the five constituent capitals and strengthen the sustainability of small-scale fishing households. It was found that fishing households before and during the COVID-19 pandemic show insufficient sustainability (47.62%). Social capital is the SLA capital that changed the most among the five during the COVID-19 pandemic and has become entirely sustainable. © Penerbit UMT

ABSTRACT

The property is a unique product that cannot be contrasted with other commercial products due to pricing conditions. Property price determination is one of the crucial aspects of property development activities because of the profit margin made by the developer and the purchasing preferences. This study attempts to extend the literature that has largely focused on factors of housing prices in developed markets and provided recent evidence of housing price determinants in two countries (i.e., Indonesia and Malaysia). Thus, this study examines the factors affecting housing prices in Jakarta Metropolitan Region and Greater Kuala Lumpur. A quantitative approach was used involving two countries, namely Indonesia and Malaysia. The data was collected using a survey questionnaire through purposive sampling. A total of 100 respondents (Indonesia) and 134 respondents (Malaysia) participated in this study. The data was analyzed using descriptive (frequency) and inferential statistics (chi-square test and multinomial regression). The results indicated that housing location, property funding, and health have a significant effect on residential property prices in Indonesia. Besides that, the results displayed that housing physical design, home design and construction, developer and real estate products, development concepts, housing location, property funding, social status, health, law provisions, and external factors do not affect residential property price in Malaysia. Despite being neighbors, Indonesia and Malaysia have distinct economic and landscape characteristics. Furthermore, considering Indonesia has a higher number of Covid-19 cases than Malaysia, significant information on how the pandemic has affected the demand, cost, and pricing of residential housing in Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur will be provided. The findings of this study will provide recommendations to investors, buyers, and policy about the residential housing industry's prospects for growth in emerging nations following the pandemic. © 2022 by the authors;licensee Growing Science, Canada.

ABSTRACT

As a primary agricultural commodity, cocoa is the essential commodity and source of income for farmers, workers, and companies in terms of its supply chain. In Indonesia, cocoa is a commodity number three after coconut palm oil and rubber. Therefore, it plays a crucial role in creating job opportunities, which focusing on agribusiness and domestic agroindustry, environmental conservation, and regional development. In conjunction with the significant contribution of cocoa as an agricultural commodity, this study seeks to investigate the cocoa commodity competitiveness dynamics in Indonesia and Ivory Coast before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study calculates the data of export using a four-digit Harmonized System (HS) on the basis of the United Nations' Standard International Trade Classification (SITC) from 2016 to 2020. In determining the country's competitiveness, this study applies the Balassa Revealed Comparative Advantage (BRCA). This study indicates that the competitive dynamics of cocoa commodities occurred in Indonesia and Ivory Coast before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. Thus, the chocolate industry network should promote good governance for improving sustainable agricultural resources, including fair and inclusive labour policy and green supply chains incentives. Also, creating a better policy climate for effective agricultural management and developing a downstream chocolate industry should be crucial for both countries. © IEOM Society International.

ABSTRACT

Forecasting is an integral approach due to its ability to make informed act decisions and develop data-driven strategies. It's also used to make decisions related to current circumstances and predictions on future conditions. An integral part has been developed using visibility analysis for COVID-19 Outbreak, a lesson from Indonesia. The author identified that its topic has limited attention, especially in assessing the forecasting models. The issue comes from predicted results that are questionable or cannot be trusted without applying the visibility analysis in the forecasting model. The visibility analysis is required to assess the model's ability to forecast future events. In conjunction with the issue, this paper introduces the analysis of visibility error with the different concepts during model development for the transmission prevention measures in making the decision. This study applied a statistical approach to assess the visibility error of forecasting performance in determining how long periods of forecasting and deciding for transmission prevention measures COVID-19 pandemics. Also, we developed the visibility error of time-variant using inductive logic. The result indicated that the number of data required to perform forecasting work on the basis of forecasting model specifications. In conclusion, this study has been completed to develop the statistical formula for identifying the largest time horizon in forecasting model N = V + 2. Also, this developed model can assist the stakeholder in forecasting the number of transmission prevention and making the decision in case of COVID-19 pandemic. © 2022 by the authors.

ABSTRACT

COVID-19 has spread to more than a hundred countries worldwide since the first case reported in late 2019 in Wuhan, China. As one of the countries affected by the spread of COVID-19 cases, the local government of Malaysia has issued several policies to reduce the spread of this outbreak. One of the measures taken by the Malaysian government, namely the Movement Control Order, has been carried out since March 18, 2020. In order to provide precise information to the government so that it can take the appropriate measures, many researchers have attempted to predict and create the model for these cases to identify the number of cases each day and the peak of this pandemic. Therefore, hospitals and health workers can anticipate a surge in COVID19 patients. In this research, confirmed, recovered, and death cases prediction was performed using the neural network as one of the machine learning methods with high accuracy. The neural network model used is the Multi-Layer Perceptron, Neural Network Auto-Regressive, and Extreme Learning Machine. The three models calculated the average percentage error (APE) values for 7 days and obtained APE values for most cases less than 10%;only 1 case in the last day of one method had an APE value of approximately 11%. Furthermore, based on the best model, then the forecast is made for the next 7 days. In conclusion, this study identified that the MLP model is the best model for 7-step ahead forecasting for confirmed, recovered, and death cases in Malaysia. However, according to the result of testing data, the ELM performs better than the MLP model. © 2022 by the authors;.

ABSTRACT

Today, Coronavirus is a pandemic that has spread worldwide and causes many problems, including socio economic problems in society. Therefore, e-marketing has an essential function in acquiring new customers, generating leads, and generating revenue for your business by reaching customers interested in your products and services. A digital platform such as web marketing is online marketing to prospective leads and high-value consumers. Thus, the present study examined the usage of e-marketing as a model for buying decisions moderated by perceived risk during the covid-19 pandemic in Aceh Province, Indonesia. This quantitative study involved 325 respondents and was collected through a survey by filling out the questionnaires. Also, e-marketing is measured by perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use as exogenous variables. Therefore, perceived risk is a mediating variable, and the consumer buying decision is an endogenous variable. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modelling – Analysis of Moments Structure (SEM-AMOS). The results showed that e-marketing (perceived usefulness and ease of use) positively and significantly affects consumer buying decisions. This study also applied the Sobel test and indicated that perceived risk mediates perceived usefulness and ease toward consumer buying decisions. In conclusion, this study has successfully examined the relationship between e-marketing via perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Also, it proves that perceived risk plays a mediating role (partial mediator) in the relationship of perceived usefulness and ease of use on consumer buying decisions. This tested model has become a formulation, especially in marketing science, where it turns out that during the covid-19 pandemic, the buying decision model in the marketplace is a function of the perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of consumers towards the marketplace, as well as the perceived risk of the marketplace as a partial mediator. So that marketplace manufacturers can drive consumer buying decisions by consumers by creating a strengthening of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use for consumers, thereby affecting consumers' perceived risk and impacting their buying decisions. © 2022 by the authors;licensee Growing Science, Canada.

ABSTRACT

At the end of 2019, the world was shocked by the emergence of an unusual pneumonia outbreak in Wuhan-China. World Health Organization (WHO) received the first case on December 31, 2019. At the end of January 2020, the WHO officially identified the pneumonia outbreak case as Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19. Responding to the development of Coronavirus, several countries applying mitigation policies. Thus, mitigation policies are starting from issuing travel warnings, restrictions, and closure of flight routes until restrictions on importing several goods. Several countries choose different approaches to mitigate COVID-19 within their border. Some existing studies related to Emerging Infectious Disease (EID), such as COVID-19, focus on mitigation mechanisms, the impact and effectiveness of mitigation only on medical variables. Rarely studies have evaluated a country's EID mitigation policy regarding nonmedical aspects such as economics. By studying Southeast Asia Countries COVID-19 mitigation policies, this paper seeks to describe the variety of EID's mitigation policies and the country's economic performances during the period of mitigation. The researchers choose Southeast Asia (ASEAN) countries due to their diverse religion, culture, history, political system, and economic condition. This paper uses both quantitative and qualitative as sources of data. Qualitative data is mainly collected to describe various mitigation policies undertaken by ASEAN Countries, while quantitative data is used to portray economic performances. The result of this research shows that each ASEAN countries have different mitigation approaches for COVID-19. During mitigation periods, the countries' economic performance varies depending on their economic foundation and the COVID-19 Public Health Directives. © IEOM Society International.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic affects whole segments of the world, including the banking and credit sectors. The banking and credit sector plays an essential role in the Indonesian economy structure due to the function as a collector and channel of funds by creating products offered to people who need to use the credit services. We compare the accuracy of two different machine learning methods - Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM) and Classification and Regression Tree (CART). We apply this method to classify data and determine factors that affect credit payments in debtor data at PT BPR Syariah Gebu Prima Medan, which contains current credit and bad credit debtors. Based on the evaluation conducted on the classification of factors that affect credit payments, findings showed that the factors that influence the CART method are customers who have a maximum total income of IDR 27,750,000 with a ceiling of more than IDR 57,500,000 are customers who have maximum family members. 3.5 and the LightGBM method is the ceiling, total income, family members, age, and gender with importance values of 65200, 65100,13000,9800, and 4200. However, the CART method has a higher accuracy rate of 85.9% than the LightGBM method is 81%. © IEOM Society International.

ABSTRACT

Corporate financial performance is an overview of the company's financial status report over a period of time to figure out how successful and profitable a company is in producing revenue. These indicators include sales growth, profitability (reflected by ratios such as return on investment, return on sales and return on equity), share price, earnings per share, and so forth. The world economy is currently facing economic challenges as the coronavirus (COVID-19) presence has a serious impact on health care, economy, transportation, and other fields in different industries and regions. It is crucial to evaluate the effect of a major public health emergency on company performance in these difficult economic times, as issuers are a fundamental component of the national economy. Investigations suggest that the financial system's internal factors may be the main cause of the economic downturn in recent years. Almost all industrial sectors were affected, including the telecommunications sector. This paper seeks to understand corporate financial performance during the Covid-19 period, collected from various related sources. This research is designed using a qualitative approach through literature study. Reviews on corporate finance performance are carried out by reading and analysing 25 peer-review journal articles and summarised in two tables, namely journal articles and publisher distribution and article categories based on their subject. This study's findings are that the government must maintain economic stability by paying attention to the Covid-19 virus pandemic problem because it is very influential in its economy. There are several obstacles in data collection, such as lack of updates, incomplete financial reports. In conclusion, this study found that the government's role is significant in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic so that all fields can be saved and accelerate the transition period by creating conducive economic conditions. © IEOM Society International.

ABSTRACT

The use of Online Class (OC) in higher education has become more magnificent than before significantly during the Covid19 pandemic outbreak. This paper investigates the practice of OC among Mandarin foreign language learners for their elective courses. The purpose was to create a productive OC. The study presented students' perceptions of the productiveness of OC. The study aimed to figure out how students viewed the instructor's teaching and actions and how such aspects impacted students' expectations of the course and the OC in general. A mixed-method which involved quantitative and qualitative data collection from 65 Mandarin foreign learners' approach employed in this study. The instruction of OC carried out for seven weeks. After OC, the students were given questionnaires and interviewed to explore their experiences deeply. Data was a quantitative analysis based on the themes of Learner access, Learner Interaction, Learner response, and Learning outcomes. The emerging themes of qualitative analysis were teacher, students, content, and technology. The findings indicated that the students were active, worked more autonomously, and became more responsible for their learning. OC enabled the teachers to provide teaching materials via various online applications, better-personalised assistance, and better track student progress. Most students liked learning in the OC environment and indicated they would prefer this instructional approach more than conventional classes. The study found that instructors need to be always reflective in considering and altering the emerging positive or negative feedback with students' suggestions while integrating advanced technology in students' learning. There is a need to reflect, re-act, and re-plan in engaging generation Z with their learning preferences to achieve the learning outcomes. © IEOM Society International.

ABSTRACT

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a major impact on global financial problem increasingly erratic stock price movement, including in Indonesia. In general terms, stock prices have some features that describe price movements. These features are jump, volatility smile, and leptokurtic. These features are obtained by modelling the stock price with the best model. This paper investigates the Merton Jump Diffusion (MJD) model and implemented stock prices in Indonesia to see if the model could capture some stock price features during the Covid-19 pandemic. MJD model is built based on the Black Scholes model by adding a Poisson Jump Process with the parameters are intantaneous expected return, volatility, jump intensity, mean, and standar deviation. The parameter values estimated by using the Maximum Likelihood Estimation algorithm and computed using MATLAB. The Indonesian stock price being modelled is 10 Blue Chips stocks during the Covid-19 pandemic period 23/12/2019 -23/12/2020. The result shows that Blue Chips Stocks in Indonesia exhibit several jumps by jump intensities values. Moment density of MJD reveals the presence of leptokurtic feature by excessive kurtosis and indicated volatility smile by skewness. It is found that the MJD model is suitable for modelling Indonesia's stock prices during the Covid-19 pandemic. © IEOM Society International.

ABSTRACT

As embodied in Malaysia's Vision 2020, Malaysia aims to become a cashless country. Therefore, the existing statistical data indicated that the e-wallet adoption rate remains at a low percentage. It has been a barrier for Malaysia in achieving the aims to become a cashless country. The use of e-wallet was also expected to rise amidst the Covid-19 pandemic;to optimize an intervention for the Covid-19 outbreak. Thus, the current study investigates the factors that correlate with the intention to use e-wallet during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study is designed using a quantitative approach through cross-sectional data. A total of 160 Malaysian youths participated and collected by using an online survey. Further, the Task-Technology Fit (TTF) model and Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) were integrated into this study with an extended variable, namely, perceived credibility. The analysis results showed that Individual-Technology Fit, Task-Technology Fit, Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease of Use and Perceived Credibility were significantly correlated to Covid19 intra-period e-wallet adoption. In conclusion, a considerable theoretical contribution was demonstrated by integrating TTF-TAM and Perceived Credibility in a single integrated model. The constructs in the TTF model (i.e., Individual-technology fit and task-technology fit) has positively related to the constructs in the TAM model (i.e., perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use). This study is useful to stakeholders and provides enhanced directions to meet market needs by understanding and predicting e-wallet user's post-pandemic behavior, thereby helping service providers attract new users and retain their existing users. © 2021 by the authors;licensee Growing Science, Canada.
